Lent and the Christian Business Leader
If you are following the Christian lectionary, you would know that Lent actually started last week and will continue right up until Easter.
For this edition of Monday Meditations, take some time to read through these thoughts and ideas, reflect on the Scriptures provided, and consider how you might be able to take steps to bring lent into your business practices as well.
Traditionally, Lent is a period of 40 days before Easter, when Christians from all around the world prepare for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It is a time of spiritual reflection, repentance, and renewal that, for a Christian entrepreneur and business leader, gives us a unique opportunity to reflect on our relationship with God, assess our business practices and realign our values with those of the gospel.
Here are some reasons why I believe observing Lent is important for us as Christian entrepreneurs and business leaders:
REFLECTION: (2 Corinthians 13:5)
Lent encourages us to take time for introspection and reflection. It is a time to reflect on our life, values, and goals. Christians in the marketplace can use this time to reflect on business practices, assess success and failures, and make necessary changes.
REPENTANCE: (2 Peter 3:9)
Following reflection, Lent is also a time for repentance. It is a time to confess our sins and ask for God's forgiveness.
As Christian marketplace leaders we submit ourselves to God, reflect on our past mistakes and seek forgiveness from God and others.
RENEWAL: (2Corinthians 5:17)
Lent is also a season of renewal. It is a time to renew our commitment to God and our faith.
For Christian entrepreneurs and leaders, we can use this time to renew our commitment to our business, our customers, and employees. We can also use this time to seek God's guidance and direction for our business and personal lives.
VALUES: (James 1:22-27)
As a FAITH-based business leader and entrepreneur, it is important to align our business practices with our values. Lent provides us with an opportunity to consider whether our business practices are in line with our values and make necessary changes.
SACRIFICE: (Romans 12:1)
Lent is a time to give up something in order to focus more on God. We can use this time to sacrifice something that is hindering our relationship with God. We can also use this concept to stop doing things hindering our business. This could be a bad habit, a distraction, or even a practice that is not in line with our Christian values.
PRAYER: (Philippians 4:5-7)
It is important to use this time to pray for our business, customers, and employees. We should also use this time to pray for guidance and direction from God.
COMMUNITY: (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Finally, Lent is a time to come together as a community. As Corpath members, we can use this time to connect with our Corpath brothers and sisters, share experiences, and support each other.
By taking advantage of this Lenten season, we can deepen our faith, improve our business practices, and live out our values in business as an act of worship to God.
My PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for this message today that encourages me to participate in this Lenten season. I pray that I would use these precepts to grow closer to you personally, and as I run the business you have entrusted to me. May my actions be a reflection of my love for you and my business practices be an act of worship. Amen.
Blessing As Always!
