Embracing Peace

As we work our way through this advent season, we focus on this week’s theme of PEACE.

Looking around the world right now I wonder if it’s possible to have peace. We see factions fighting with each other. We observe groups striving to have status and power over other groups. We see wars in specific regions. And if that weren’t enough, economic challenges and natural disasters seem to abound on nearly every continent. How is it possible to have peace in these times?

If we aren’t careful, we may choose to fall into the position that there can no longer be peace on earth and have such a dim view of the world and humanity as it strives for survival.

As such, I reflect on the phrase in the song that says “Let there be peace on earth. And let it begin with me.”

During this Christmas season, I ponder the idea that embodying and sharing peace is not only a personal virtue but a responsibility that resonates with the core teachings of Christ.

Personal Pursuit of Peace
Embracing peace begins with an inward journey.

Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Q:How can we actively seek God's peace in our daily lives, trusting that it will also manifest in our professional endeavours?

Fostering Peace in the Workplace
For many of us our world is comprised of the workplace that we have built and put our effort into every day.

Colossians 3:15 guides us in fostering peace in our business environments. It says, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

Q: How can we, as leaders, cultivate a workplace culture that reflects the peace of Christ, promoting understanding, unity, and gratitude among our team members?

Extending Peace to our Community
We have been given the opportunity, and I might also say responsibility, to connect with many people throughout our day. Some people are very familiar to us and others might be new connections. Regardless, it is up to us to ensure that we carry a light of hope and peace with us in every transaction, communication, and relationship.

Isaiah 52:7 reminds us of our duty to spread peace beyond our immediate spheres of influence.  This scripture states, "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation."

Q: In what ways can we actively contribute to the well-being and peace of the broader community during the Christmas season and beyond?

Three Bonus Questions (to use as discussion starters with your Corpath forum group):

·       How can the pursuit of personal peace enhance our effectiveness as Christian leaders?

·       In what practical ways can a peaceful workplace positively impact productivity and employee well-being?

·       How might the extension of peace to the community align with the true spirit of Christmas?

As we navigate this Advent season, let us be intentional in embodying the peace that surpasses worldly understanding. As we continue to pursue excellence in business, life and spirit at this time of the year, may our businesses be sanctuaries of tranquility and may our actions resonate with the message of peace proclaimed by the angels on that holy night. Let us pray for the wisdom and strength to be instruments of peace, sowing seeds of love, joy, and goodwill wherever our influence reaches.

My Prayer:
Heavenly Father, this week, grant me the serenity to seek Your peace within, the wisdom to foster it in my workplace, and the compassion to extend it to the community around me.
May my leadership be a reflection of Your love, bringing hope and peace to those I serve.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.
