Christ at the Table
One of the tenets we, as Corpath members, ascribe to, is the concept of
"Christ at the table." This phrase encapsulates the essence of making space for Christ to be present in our Forum Group meetings, however, I believe this concept extends to every facet of our professional and personal lives. For this time of year as we approach the season of Advent and prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, reflecting on the significance of having Christ at the table becomes even more pertinent.
In the hustle and bustle of the daily grind, I find it's very easy to compartmentalize my faith, relegating it to Sunday services and personal devotions. However, embracing the idea of Christ at the table challenges me to recognize that every meeting, decision, and interaction is an opportunity to invite Christ into my endeavours. The notion of "Christ at the table" challenges me to re-evaluate my priorities. It's a call to move beyond mere success metrics and recognize that Christ desires to be an integral part of every strategic plan, board meeting, and project discussion; literally everything I do.
Christ in Decision-Making
The journey of a Christian business leader is not one of solitude but of seeking divine wisdom. James 1:5 reminds us to seek God in all we do.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God who gives generously to all, without finding fault, and it will be given you. (James 1:5)
This verse underscores the importance of seeking God’s divine wisdom in decision making, emphasizing the generosity of God in providing guidance/.
Christ in Interactions with Others
The workplace is a microcosm of diverse personalities and perspectives.
In Matthew 18:20, Jesus declares, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."
This passage serves as a guiding principle, urging us to recognize that when we gather in Christ's name, His presence transcends our differences. This challenges us to approach interactions with empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to build relationships that reflect the love of Christ. It also emphasizes the transformative power of incorporating Christ into our interactions with colleagues, clients, and employees. By fostering an environment of love, respect, and compassion, we create a space where Christ's presence is not only welcomed but celebrated.
Christ in Ethical Business Practices
The Bible provides a moral compass for our professional lives.
Ephesians 4:29 encourages us to "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." Integrating these principles into our business practices ensures that Christ is not just present at the table but actively shaping our ethics and values.
As Christian leaders, we are called to uphold integrity in our communication and dealings. Christ at the table means actively applying biblical principles to ensure that our business practices align with the ethical standards set by the Word of God.
Advent Reflection
As we enter the season of Advent, I am reminded of Mary and Joseph's humble acceptance of Christ in the manger. This prompts me to consider how I can similarly prepare a space for Christ at the table of my heart and business. Advent becomes a season not just of festive decorations but of intentional reflection, making room for Christ to illuminate every aspect of my leadership journey.
Q: In what ways can you intentionally ask Christ to be present with you? Share your thoughts with your Corpath Forum group at your next gathering.
My Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, as I navigate the complexities of leading in the business world, I invite You to be present at my table. Guide my decisions, temper my interactions with love, and may my business practices be in alignment with Your Word. As I approach the celebration of Christ's birth, may His presence permeate every aspect of my life and leadership. In Jesus' name, I pray.
Amen.
