Removing Barriers

As a Christian business leader, my faith has always been a guiding light in my professional journey. I firmly believe that following Jesus Christ is not only a spiritual commitment but a way of life that should permeate every aspect of our existence.

Yet, as I say this, I am fully aware of the times when I have wilfully turned away from that light. Times that I chose to ignore the commitment that I intended to have as I pursue excellence in business, life, and spirit.

And some of my recent daily readings, I recently was reacquainted with the story of Joshua.

The book of Joshua, specifically Joshua 24, offers profound guidance on how to get rid of anything that stands contrary to following Jesus Christ.

The Importance of Choice
In Joshua 24, we see Joshua gathering the Israelites and reminding them of their history and God's faithfulness. He challenges them to make a choice – to serve the Lord or the false gods of their forefathers.

As Christians, we also face choices every day. We must decide whether our actions align with our faith and the teachings of Jesus.

Q: What choices have I made in my business leadership role that either align with or contradict my faith in Jesus Christ?

Removing Idols
Joshua emphasizes the need to get rid of the idols that the Israelites still held onto. Idols can represent anything that takes precedence over our relationship with God.

In the business world, idols can manifest as the pursuit of wealth, power, or success at the expense of our faith and values.

Q: What "idols" have I allowed to take precedence in my business and/or personal life, and how have they affected my relationship with Jesus Christ?

The Power of Commitment
Joshua's famous declaration, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord," clearly displays the importance of making a firm commitment to follow God's ways.

In our personal and professional lives, commitment to Christ means living out our faith with integrity, honesty, and compassion.

Q: How can I strengthen my commitment to Jesus Christ in my role as a leader, and what changes can I make to better reflect His teachings in my actions?

In my journey as a Christian business leader, I truly believe embracing the wisdom of Joshua 24 has the power to transform not only my business practices but my life as a whole. Making deliberate choices that align with my faith, removing idols that distract me from Christ, and committing wholeheartedly to follow Him can create a positive and uplifting work environment that radiates the love of Jesus.

Take some time to reflect on Joshua 24 and the message it’s giving to you today. Maybe share your thoughts with your Corpath forum group at your next meeting.

My Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you today with a heart full of gratitude for the guidance and inspiration found in the book of Joshua. Help me, Lord, to make the right choices to remove any idols that stand in the way of a deep and meaningful relationship with you, and to commit wholeheartedly to follow Jesus Christ in all that I do. May my actions be a reflection of your love and grace, and may they inspire those around me to seek you with all their hearts.

In Jesus' name, I pray.

Amen.
